INCUBATOR NETWORK SHARING TO BOOST MEMBERSHIP OF MCI

08/15/2000 - The launch of the Multimedia Development Corp's National Incubator Network Shared Services (NINSS) will boost membership of its MSC Central Incubator (MCI) from 650 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to 1,500 in the next three years.

Its senior vice-president of operations, Dr Mohamed Arif Nun, said the NINSS would act as a network of incubators which would enable SMEs and IT companies to go to any incubator and get shared services without having to move around too much.

"We are confident the NINSS will spawn more small and medium sized enterprises (SME's) in the IT and multimedia industry," Arif told reporters after officiating a seminar on the National Incubator Network Shared Services in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The MCI is the centre for managing the services under NINSS. Arif also said incubators that did not have nurturing and business development services, which was critical for any incubating function, could now receive services from the shared services concept.

He said those who needed the shared services could apply for it via their own incubator or at the MSC Central Incubator.

"Existing and new incubators can start applying to be a member of the NINSS and take advantage of the services offered," said Arif.

He said the shared services concept was an integral part of the MSC strategy to develop SMEs and to matchmake them with the world's best companies.

Arif said the NINSS would provide a list of shared services which would be delivered by service providers such as Mesdaq, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Skali.Net, ec-Finance.com, Sun Microsystems, Informix and Netmyne.

He added that there would be one virtual window for the SMEs which would be similar to a big `incubator supermarket'.

"They can go along the virtual shelves and pick up services that they want at cost effective prices.”
